Checklist for Students Renting

When viewing a property there are some basic questions you should ask.

  • How much is the rent/deposit?
  • How often is the rent due?
  • How long is the lease?
  • Do you understand all the terms and conditions of the lease agreement?
  • What happens if you terminate the lease early?
  • Are you allowed to sublet?
  • Are pets allowed?
  • Can you paint the walls or make other decorating changes?
  • Who is responsible for the maintenance of the property?
  • What are the neighbours like?
  • Is the property safe and secure?
  • Is the property furnished?
  • Is there a desk in my room?
  • Does the property have central heating?
  • Is there parking available?
  • Is there a garden?
  • Is there cable TV?
  • Is there a phone line?
  • Is there broadband access?
  • Does the property include all kitchen appliances?
  • Is there adequate storage space?
  • Is the property close to public transport routes?
  • How far is the property from college campus?
  • What is the noise level like in the area?
  • Is the area safe?
