REA, the national property group comprised of some of the country’s longest established estate agents, held their AGM in The River Court Hotel in Kilkenny, on Friday, 30th November Alliance has been calling for Irish valuation standards to match international criteria for years. According to the incoming Chairman, Michael Boyd, “the impending NAMA regime should result in the valuation process being put at the central of the credit assessment system.
Alliance agents also reflected on the market and report no significant decreases in prices in the last quarter which may indicate the market is finding a base. According to Patrick Riney, “We feel by the time NAMA starts, the market might be showing some confidence again. We believe there is a lot of pent-up demand but people are waiting for some positive signs before taking steps. Once the banks recommence lending to the property sector and transactions can happen, we feel the market will begin to stabilise. We look forward to something in the Budget to boost the property market. We recommend an abolition of stamp duty for residential transactions and a reduction of stamp duty to 2% for all commercial sales”.
