    County Longford is bordered by two large lakes - Lough Ree and Lough Gowna. The rest of the county is covered in bogs and farmland.

    The county is brimming with history as many monks settled here and there are numerous well preserved monasteries throughout the county including Abbeyderg, Saint's Island, Abbeylara and Abbeyshrule. The county is also famous for its Iron Age bog road which dates back to 148 B.C.

    Nine bordering counties can be seen from the motte in the small town of Granard which sites 543 feet up but provides one of the best views in the land.
