The "stoney grey soil" of County Monaghan is probably best known for being the birthplace and childhood home of poet Patrick Kavanagh, who grew up in the town of Iniskeen. It is also known for its lace-making, made famous when it was used in the late Princess Diana's wedding dress..

Monaghan's intriguing landscape is 10,000 years in the making, created by glaciers in the Ice Age, and is a very popular place for outdoor activities including golf, cycling, angling and waterskiing.

Monaghan is also home to many historical sites including the 10th century High Cross in Clones and the Tullyrain Ring Fort near Shantonagh. It is the sixth smallest county and is known for being mountainous with lots of natural beauty.

Although it has a relatively small population, it's a great place to live if you're after a quiet and relaxing lifestyle, away from the hustle and bustle of a big city. Despite being just 90 minutes from Dublin, it feels worlds apart.
