Clonmacnoise with its round tower, ruins and Irish high cross is a former monastery founded in the 6th century by St Ciaran. Also of interest is the Demesne Castle in Birr, which is a great example of a fortress from the 17th century. Tullamore is the largest town in County Offaly and is home to Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey.
